And I don't know how exactly they do it, but this drama has that quality I love so much in Japanese series: they have a perfect balance of humor and drama.īut the thing with Japanese dramas is, I usually end up incredibly dissatisfied.

Plus the supporting cast and the guests played their roles well. Each episode gives you an interesting case to ponder on, while providing new developments on the over-all story. No dragging moments where you're tempted to fast-forward, and none of my usual pet peeves in Taiwanese and Korean dramas. I also give props to whoever thought up this plot and wrote the screenplay and directed and all the behind-the-scenes stuff. I have to admit, she and Yamapi also had good chemistry, and I've seen a couple of Yamaki fanvideos out there, so I'm sure a lot of people love seeing them together as well. But that's to be expected, she is, after all a poor law student. Like Yamapi, she was also perfect for the role of Tsurara. She's a good actress, and she's really cute as well, with that totally natural and innocent smile that she has.

I'm already pretty familiar with her from Hana Kimi and Nobuta and I really like her. And if that isn't the mark of a good actor, I don't know what is. You end up empathizing with them and rooting for them no matter what they're up to. And more than that he is able to create these characters that really stay with you. Yamapi has that ability to catch the viewer's interest and hold it all throughout. I'm not merely blinded by his good looks. He's a great actor and I really do say this with honesty. The dark side to Kurosaki is also a piece of cake for him to play. If you've ever seen Yamapi as himself you'll know exactly what I mean. In essence, Kurosaki is silent and introspective and haunted by his past, but at the same time he has this playful, tongue-in-cheek, vibrant side which is classic Yamapi. I would've watched this drama just for the fact that Yamapi was in it, but five minutes into the first episode was all it took for me to realize that this dorama had major substance behind the gorgeous eye candy. But my favorite was Yamapi as Kurosaki, all in black with the red suspenders. There's Yamapi the yuppie, in a suit and slicked back hair, then Yamapi the construction worker, Yamapi the gardener, Yamapi the love swindler, Yamapi the psychic (he looks hot in a kimono as well!), Yamapi the rocker (blond hair and black eyeliner!!), and more. And, because he was playing a swindler, we viewers get the benefit of seeing Yamapi in a wide variety of disguises. I love the black hair on him and he's a lot more buff in this drama than he was in the two previous ones. Let me start with how great he looked (what can I say, I am a fangirl). The feeling of watching this drama was exactly the same as going on a chocolate binge: intoxicating. Add to that the fact that he was the "other guy" in those two doramas (meaning not too many scenes), and you can probably imagine how satisfied I am with Kurosagi. Prior to this, I had watched Nobuta Wo Produce and Stand Up!! and suffered through the frustration of him not getting the girl. This drama represented Yamapi's first time to play the protagonist. Screengrabs from KissAsian. Now let me just offer a disclaimer: I'm majorly obsessed with Yamapi these days so I don't know how objective I can be. And I hope you find the same love that obaasan and ojiisan had.

(History has proven that it’s the latter.)īonus! In Episode 7, there’s the mini-story of the taro savings, which I think is the epitome of proper love. It’s either love is strange or humans are. Or even the pay-it-forward kind (sometimes in a seemingly dirty-old-man kind of way). Support by just letting that person be, no matter the moral alignment of his actions. But, there are underlying interpretations – or misinterpretations – of love in Kurosagi, too.
